mission statement
The Institute of Cultural Inquiry (ICI) is a non-profit, educational organization. Its mission is to educate the public about the visual methods used in society to describe and discuss cultural phenomena. Many of the ICI projects focus on long-standing mechanisms of cultural analysis that through time have become lost, forgotten or suppressed, even though they influence modern thinking. Other ICI activities focus on contemporary culture and current methods of thought that are so commonplace and insidious that they operate almost invisibly. In order to achieve these goals, the Institute of Cultural Inquiry sponsors displays, performances, symposia, and new media events both on site and in the community at large. The ICI also maintains an active publishing program as another means of disseminating information to the public. The Programs of the ICI fall into two categories: Institute Projects, which are large, ongoing ICI activities, and Associate Projects, which are initiated and shepherded by specific Associates. The Institute of Cultural Inquiry has a core of active Associates and a base of interested Members.
