For most of the 1990s, patrons to bars and restaurants would find free ‘go-cards’ in a rack by the restroom. For the most part these cards announced products and fashion trends but once in a while you came across a postcard that ‘advertised’ other social concerns. This card reproduces a display of the Name Project Quilt (the AIDS Quilt) during its last display on the Washington Mall in 1996. Although the Quilt has rescinded from public view, the sentiment spelled out on this card has not abated (perhaps because acts of compassion like the public display of the entire quilt are no longer part of the cultural landscape?).
