about the chronicles Each day, the front page of a prominent U.S. newspaper is collected. The pages are altered, leaving visible only references to HIV or AIDS. Every year, these documents are bound into a volume for their display on December 1st, World AIDS Day. On this day, the Chronicles are placed on a pedestal so that members of the community can slowly turn the pages that mark a year of AIDS history. Quantity of articles is not the only issue, although it usually shows a dearth. What types of articles are written about AIDS? Are certain stereotypes perpetuated by the population they choose to focus on? The method is simple but the questions are endless and complex. After December 1st each year, the volumes are deposited in the ICI Repository. If you are interested in creating a cover for a volume of the AIDS Chronicles, please contact us. exhibition history photo gallery community service |
